Age: Twenty-two (22)

getting to know you ..x..
General Appearance:
FC: Heather Morris | Alyssa is fit from training and dance, an average height at 5'6" and a healthy weight. She's often seen wearing dresses that make her look anything but intimidating with her hair out and curled. Her hair is always kept neat and tied up when she's off killing demons to avoid it getting messy.
Talents: Dancing: A mundane interest that her parents forced her into as a kid. They wanted her to have at least one talent not related to shadowhunting and from early on in the lessons Alyssa found she had a natural talent for it.
Likes:
- Being a Shadowhunter: Yes, it's the obvious one but you aren't going to be good at your job if you don't enjoy it. Alyssa has always had a positive view on being a shadowhunter, and even though she does get easily scared, she's always tried to make sure that fear never destroyed the positive view. She isn't the best at what she does but she isn't too bad and she couldn't even think about what it would have been like to grow up as a mundane.
- Books: Who doesn't like to sit down with a good book and be pulled into a fictional world? Alyssa finds a lot of her free time is spent doing exactly that. You could say you wouldn't want to living in a world with fantasy creatures but she just can't resist the pull of a good book.
- Dancing: It isn't just something she's talented in but something she actually enjoys! She likes to go to clubs, perform occasionally and even just randomly dance when she's alone.
- Birds: Having a rainbow lorikeet as a pet has given her a love for birds. She thinks of them as intelligent and kind animals, and she may even be a little jealous of them being able to fly.
Dislikes: - Large Animals: She can't stand them, never has been able to. Cats are probably about the limit, once you get to dogs, horses and other animals she'll very often run away screaming if they come too close. It's more of a fear than a dislike but she doesn't like to call it a fear, she likes to think of herself as fearless.
- Skirts: She likes wearing dresses but not skirts. She's just never really been a fan of them, she'll either be in a dress or jeans and a shirt.
- Forests: A place full of animals and many ways to kill her, she prefers to stay out of the forest. She's perfectly fine fighting off demons but all the things that find there home hidden in the trees are what she would rather avoid at all costs.
- Silence: Whether it's music playing in the background, people talking in the next room or even cars going by on the street, Alyssa needs some kind of noise. She sleeps with music playing and she'll often move rooms to one where there is more likely to be background noise.
Habits: - Tying Her Hair Up: She'll very often have a hair tie on her wrist and be tying her hair up into a ponytail or bun at random times. Most of the time hardly a minute will pass before the hair tie is around her wrist again.
- Pulling at Threads in her Clothes: A bit of a destructive habit, Alyssa has managed to destroy a fair few shirts but picking at loose threads and literally pulling them apart.
Personality:
A quiet but fun loving demon killer. That's about the best way to describe Alyssa. She's a shadowhunter and she loves being one, enough to have literally picked it over family. Don't let that make you think she doesn't care for relationships and people though, she's a loving person who loved her family when they were around and still loves them. She's also someone who cherishes friendship and is a big supporter of a few close friends rather than being little-miss-popular and having heaps of distant friends. When she's with her close friends is when she feels most at home but all of those friends know that she isn't the best at the part where you make friends and have had to get past her shyness.
If you put Alyssa near someone she doesn't know, she'll hide like a scared child. With how shy she is, you would think she had something like autism but she just lacks the initial confidence to interact with someone she doesn't know. The more she's around someone though, the more comfortable she feels and as her close friends know, she isn't one bit shy once you get to know her. She's crazy, loud and sometimes a little bit too embarrassing but she's also the type of person to stick by you when times get a bit tough.
Her shyness goes hand-in-hand with her dislike of change. Meeting new people is a type of change and just as she doesn't like that, she doesn't like any other sort of change happening. It can be as simple as the seasons changing getting her in a bad mood to the extremity of how long is took her to really get used to living with different people after her family left. She's became more atuned to change as she's gotten older, finding herself just learning to cope as she moved from Alicante to New York rather than complaining and being in a grumpy mood. Change does still affect her though and she does openly try to avoid it if she can in most situations.
A way she learned to cope with the large change of moving was going to things she found familiar and that is what she loves to do when anything negative is happening. She loves books and being able to escape to other worlds, she loves to dance, she loves to be around friends, and she loves to just go out and find a demon to kill. She's always most comfortable doing something she loves and something that's familiar and that's when you'll see her most like herself.
(I know the personality isn't that good, never been too good at writing them but you have detailed strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, habits and a talent to make up for it.)
Weaknesses:
- Doesn't Adjust Well: When change comes knocking on her door, Alyssa doesn't adjust quickly. The example would be the months it took for her to get used to living with a different family after her father and brother leaving. She was past the death of her mother and the fact that her father and brother had left before she was used to the differences that the came from living with different people.
- Impatient: She hates lines and she hates waiting. She doesn't like the idea of waiting for things and just wasting that time, she does try to carry a book around with her at all times so if she does have to wait for something, she can read. If she does have to wait a long time with nothing to do while she waits, she can get angry.
- Shy: If she doesn't know someone, she's extremely shy. Once she gets to know someone, it fades away and it isn't as bad as it was when she was younger.
- Weak: She's thankful for strength runes because she would probably be stuffed without them. It seemed like being gifted with such good speed meant that she was gifted with no muscle whatsoever.
Strengths: - Humor: Her father's "dad jokes" seemed to rub off on her when she was a kid. She'll quite often be telling jokes and sometimes they'll even be funny! She thinks of it as a strength, it can only help you to be able to make someone laugh.
- Brave: A needed thing for a shadowhunter. There isn't much that will scare Alyssa (with the exception of large animals) and she's very much happy to walk into a dangerous situation as long as she has weapons with her.
- Playful: She isn't overly serious and she's happy to be stupid in public when she'd with her friends. This side of her means she doesn't often get stressed about stuff.
- Fast: She can run fast and move fast in general. When she was younger she liked to try and race her brother, him with a speed rune and her without. He beat her but not by very much. She has a natural talent with speed.

History:
Alyssa Samantha Maitland was born to Larissa and Mitchel Maitland, being their second child and the younger sister of Steve Maitland. At the time when Alyssa was born, her parents lived in Alicante. Her early life was normal for a Shadowhunter, she couldn't really tell you anything that was off about it, apart from maybe her father's jokes. Well, there was her brother and he wasn't what most would think of as a normal brother. He was very much uninterested in the life he'd been born into, he disliked training, disliked learning and he even disliked Alyssa for her high interest and early love of training and being a shadowhunter in general.
She took to training very quickly, finding it was something that she enjoyed. It wasn't as if she were overly talented in anything -- apart from being naturally fast when it came to running -- but she did find that enjoying it meant she worked hard and gained the needed skills at a good pace. That was a positive thing as she also spent one day a week in France where she would take dance lessons that her mother had forced her into.
It was when she got to about the age of twelve when things started to go downhill. She can still remember the small details of the night, June 13th, when her father walked in to give her the news. She still can't be sure why it had to be her mother, why it had to happen when she was so young; she isn't sure how her mother managed to die at the hands of a single demon when she had been a skilled Shadowhunter.
---
Alyssa sat on an old couch in the library, she had a book in her lap and a mug of hot chocolate in her hands. It was winter and there was a chill in the air that the fireplace could never get rid of. She took a sip of her hot chocolate, feeling it burn her tongue but not caring much. She placed it on the coffee table in front of her and then picked her book back up. A small puff of dust flew into the air as she turned the page.
"Ally, come down to the dining room," her brother called out. She could hear a forced monotone from his voice and she wondered for a moment if he was trying to play some sort of joke on her. He was standing at the doorway of the library, his face was blank, not as if he were hiding laughter but more as if he were in shock and she knew from the moment she saw that expression that something was wrong.
As she rushed down the stairs, her dress brushed against her knees and her hair flew in front of her face. She ran as fast as she could, and she could run fast. With the speed that she was taking the stairs she was actually surprised that she didn't end up flat on her face. She leaped down the last few stairs and skidded into the kitchen. She froze as she took in the scene in front of her. The whole room looked grey, colour didn't seem possible with the looks on everyone's faces. It was her father that caught her eye first, she'd never seen him cry before, he'd been the strong one that was always there to comfort those who weren't as strong. He looked destroyed, cut into pieces as he sat on one of the chairs and just cried.
Alyssa turned to look at her brother, his expression was still blank and his posture was too straight and stiff. He was in gear, he must have been training before whatever had happened, had happened. His hands, covered in black finger-less gloved, were curled into fists. The tips of his fingers were white.
"Street, what happened?" she asked, her voice was soft, strained as she tried to not think of the worst. She looked over at the rest of the room, not even bothering to look at the faces of everyone there. "Where's Mum?"
Steve rested his hand on her shoulder, he didn't look at her, he was looking at the ground, avoiding her eyes. "She's gone, Ally."
---
Everything changed from that moment on. It seemed that the death of Alyssa's mother forced her father to gain a view on being a Shadowhunter similar to her brother's. He decided that he didn't want any kind of part in the life, the world anymore and he decided that he was going to go and live like a mundane. Alyssa didn't react well to this, she begged him, begged him for days to rethink his decision, to stay with her and stay a Shadowhunter. He refused to and she was given a simple choice: go and live with one of the families he knew well or go with him and live a normal, mundane life.
She would be lying if she said she didn't think about choosing the latter. She did think about it, just giving up the dangerous life and going through her teen years, and then her life, as a mundane. She could have ended up working on a bookshop, library, maybe even been a part of some big sports team but she couldn't do it. In the end she knew she was shadowhunter and she knew she could never be anything else. She was young but she knew what she wanted and she was willing to let her family go for it. The day her father and brother left -- she had known her brother was going with her father -- she cried. She didn't want to let go as she hugged them goodbye and was left under the care of a neighbour.
They were nice to her. Maybe overly nice compared to what most Shadowhunters would have been like. They gave her whatever she wanted, they let her do whatever she wanted, they even gave her a month where she could take a "break" from any type of work and training. It was after that month was over though that the nice act ended and they started to try and get thing back into a normal routine.
She got used to how things worked with her new family and after a few months she found herself back into an almost normal routine, minus the dance lessons. It was her thirteenth birthday present that helped her the most with trying to get past her grief, she got a pet, to be exact a rainbow lorikeet that she named Tiko. She liked having a pet to look after and she ended up thinking of it more as a family member than the people she lived with.
Things were normal from there on, she got past her grief, continued with her training and got used to living with a different family. As her eighteenth birthday arrived, she decided that she wanted to move though, go to somewhere different in the world and she ended up moving to New York and setting herself up in a small apartment.

(From Secret Protettores. My character Kiana who is a werewolf.)
"It's a nice day," Kiana mumbled to herself, copying what her boss had said as she'd walked into work that morning. "How about we set up a stand outside to try and get more costumers?" She'd wanted to say no, she'd wanted to tell him that it was too cold to be working outside but she knew that he would say otherwise and that it would just annoy him for her to be against his idea. She agreed with a faked smile and helped with moving the stand out onto the street. As she would find out as they were setting up the stuff, they weren't the only ones with the idea, the street had turned into almost a market. The bakery a couple of shops down had out fresh pastries, the smell drifting towards Kiana and making her stomach grumble. The small jewellery makers had out rings, bracelets and necklaces, glittering in the sun.
The sun was out, it just wasn't having much of an effect on the temperature. There was a slight dusting of snow on everything that gave a new pretty effect but she'd gotten over the look of snow and now she thought of it as nothing but evil. She much preferred when it got warmer and it melted into puddles, she would rather be walking on mud than snow, she was sick of the crunch, she was sick of how cold it was and she was sick of how the sun reflected off it and blinded her. She missed the mild winters that she had grown up with and she at times really wanted to just move to somewhere that didn't snow just to not have to be tortured by it any longer. She had to continually fake a smile as she stood at the fruit stand.
There were people stopping at the stand a lot, looking at the produce and sometimes even buying something before they moved on. She felt as if they were losing business to the baker's, most of the day had passed and yet she could still smell the bread and pastries. She'd gone over and bought and a cheese and bacon roll for lunch but she still wanted to buy more food from them. She knew the reason she could still smell it was because of her increased sense of smell but then there wouldn't even have to be a smell to drag in costumers, it happened to look just as good as it smelt. She could have been happy about that, she wasn't overly busy with work today, but it also meant less money and she did have to survive on what she earned from the job.
She looked up to see a man walking over to the stand. Another customer, smile Ki, maybe he'll buy something. He stopped in front of the stand, looking at the array of fruit on show that Kiana knew was the best and freshest they had. Nothing was bruised, nothing was old and it looked so fresh that it could probably tempt a person who hated fruit. As she watched him, she was trying to catch an idea of what he might be looking at, if she could say a few words about whatever he wanted to help convince him to buy it, she would. He didn't seem to be looking at anything in particular though and she sighed silently and waited with her fingers knitted together behind her back.
She was almost about to ask him if he needed any help when he beat her to speaking. "Of course, sir, were you looking for anything specific or do you want some recommendations? I could let you know what's in season." She spoke in a clear tone, hiding her boredom perfectly with the fake interest she was used to showing. She seriously wasn't even sure how long she'd been working for by then so going off and then buying pastries on her way home sounded so nice. It was only then that she seemed to notice that shadow not too far behind the man at the stall, she looked at the other man and wondered if he wanting to buy something as well. She might have another customer.
almost finished now ..x..
